The studies in this special issue focus on apologies in everyday social interaction. The work of apologies is to transform the character of an act from one that is morally compromised into one that is acceptable. Apologies are part of the ritual work that the participants accomplish to restore the equilibrium between offender and victim (Goffman 1971). Therefore, apologies are strictly linked to the moral dimension of social interaction. The studies in this special issue all work from the same corpus of apologies in (UK and US) English telephone calls, but each exploring the data with a different focus.

Abstract
The studies in this special issue focus on apologies in everyday social interaction. The work of apologies is to transform the character of an act from one that is morally compromised into one that is acceptable. Apologies are part of the ritual work that the participants accomplish to restore the equilibrium between offender and victim (Goffman 1971). Therefore, apologies are strictly linked to the moral dimension of social interaction. The studies in this special issue all work from the same corpus of apologies in (UK and US) English telephone calls, but each exploring the data with a different focus.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
