The initial premise of this stimulating study is that there exists a fundamental differ- ence in terms of science/creativity between English-language and Argentine literature. Joanna Page suggests that the theories and principles of contemporary science and mathematics serve in English-language fiction (as embodied in the works of Thomas Pynchon and J. G. Ballard) to present a sceptical, and even apocalyptic view, of the world. In contrast, in the recent Argentine fiction featured in this densely packed book (Marcelo Cohen, Guillermo Martínez, Ricardo Piglia), modern theory is not used to convey the futility, or even the impossibility, of knowing and the act of creation, but rather serves to allow different ways of thinking about knowledge and creativity.
