Nuovo assetto ezio-epidemiologico dei parassiti nel moderno allevamento suino New etio-epidemiological set-up of parasites in the modern pig farming

In a country like Italy, expressing a natural vocation to pig breeding and meat processing, settled in the centre of Mediterranean basin, that express similar skills, the first step to understand the closed relationship between pigs and parasites is to look back to the history. More than one century (1898-2007) of literature was collected according to a specific form. In this period 164 papers was produced with different concentration as years went. For instance two “black holes” without papers was found in the decade 1899-1908 and 1939-1946 in opposition to the “golden decade” found in ‘80s. If the first silent period should be due to a growing phase of limited interest, the second one is easily ascribed to the war and to the subsequent period. Even if the number of papers remain very low, a trend of growing interest was observed. The peak is in the period of the arrive of macrocyclic lactones on the market with a buster of commercial interest.
