Abstract

EN Dell’Arte della guerra (1519-1520, 1st ed. 1521), is the final part of Machiavelli’s well known trilogy of political treaties including Il Principe and I Discorsi sopra la prima deca di Tito Livio. The treaty was an immediate success: its first translation into a foreign language, although reelaborated to a certain extent, was published in Spanish in 1536 – Tratado de Re militari – under the supervision of captain Diego Salazar. By launching in 2008 the precise project of adapting Machiavelli’s style to the modern reader, the well-known Italianist at the University of Sevillle, Manuel Carrera Diaz, published the fourth revised edition of his translation of Machiavellian treatise into Spanish first released in 1998. This paper aims at investigating the link between the discursive synchronization, as far as the basic statements of the treaty are concerned, and its historiographical and narratological characteristics, which are also the subject of the recent debate on the retrieval of the notion of the so-called historical memory. Keywords translation, Machiavelli, war, dialogue, polysystem
