Ps.-Hippolytus’s report on Basilides of Alexandria stands alone in the whole ancient heresiological literature on this early Christian teacher. The article aims to shed new light on this rather neglected text, tracing its possible sources and comparing it with other images we have of Basilides, his literary production, and doctrines.
