The aim of this article is to present the first results coming from a study on the construction of the architectural complex of San Giovanni in Monte. The current state of this building is due to continuous alterations and restorations. The first part of the paper describes the riddles that must be solved by through study and research aims, or rather, the applicability of the results. Then, a description of the methods and research tools applied here to the study of the well known monument of Bologna is offered.
