L. Mook, J. R. Whitman, J. Quarter, and A. Armstrong (eds): Understanding the Social Economy of the United States

The book is organized in four main parts and contains eleven chapters. The main purpose of the book is to present a framework for understanding the wide array of organizations in the US that prioritize their social objectives over their economic ones and that can be grouped under the label Social Economy. There are several organizations with social goals, such as public sector nonprofits, civil society organizations, social enterprises, cooperative, and other organizations with a social mission, that usually are analyzed through a three sectors approach: the public sector; private sector, and the third sector. The authors propose a different point of view called the ‘‘social economy framework.’
