The articole is a close analysis of episode 11 of the first season of the Sky Italia TV series Gomorra. In particular, in this article, I take into consideration the following tropes present in the episode: the relevance of the setting, the dialectic between loyalty and betrayal, and the role of Donna Imma, all of which reach their climax in the penultimate episode of Season 1. In particular, I argue that the organization of the space in the episode (often structured through juxtapositions such as inside/out; rich/poor; sacred/ profane) is tied to the conflicts that in 1.11 emerge and explode among the members of the Savastano clan. The men face an important decision: to accept or refuse Genny’s leadership after the period of uncertainty caused by his controversial actions. The episode is saturated with religious symbolism and the loyalty/betrayal binary applies to several characters including Donna Imma. Indeed, I argue that she is aware that she might be murdered and thus takes steps to preserve the empire created by her husband and to save Genny who is threatened by Ciro.
