The narrative work of Maiolino Bisaccioni, best known as historian, is distinctive from that of other major story-tellers of the seventeenth century for various reasons. Bisaccioni’s interest in the narrative text as an evolving experiment rather than as a permanent literary model was persevering. His innovative drive lead him to explore all the traditions potentially available to a story-teller active at his time: from the ‘Decameronian’ pattern, associated with Renaissance evolution of the narrative genre, to diverse forms of the sophisticated French and Spanish novel. This study focuses on La nave (The Boat), one of the short-stories collections published by Bisaccioni, with the aim to examine the author’s theoretical (as well as rhetorical) ideas, especially according to the nascent modern European novel.

Abstract
The narrative work of Maiolino Bisaccioni, best known as historian, is distinctive from that of other major story-tellers of the seventeenth century for various reasons. Bisaccioni’s interest in the narrative text as an evolving experiment rather than as a permanent literary model was persevering. His innovative drive lead him to explore all the traditions potentially available to a story-teller active at his time: from the ‘Decameronian’ pattern, associated with Renaissance evolution of the narrative genre, to diverse forms of the sophisticated French and Spanish novel. This study focuses on La nave (The Boat), one of the short-stories collections published by Bisaccioni, with the aim to examine the author’s theoretical (as well as rhetorical) ideas, especially according to the nascent modern European novel.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
