Parasitological and toxicological observations were carried out on 75 speciemens od six species of Gobiidae from the Gulf of Trieste. Metacercariae of digenean tremtodes Acanthocolpidae and Heterophydae were found. Mercury was analysed in liver and muscle of 4 species. Gobius niger and G. paganellus showed some correlation between mercury and metacercariae infection intensity. The possible role of Gobiidae as bioindicators is discussed.
