This paper aims at presenting a research training project on the subject of environmental education that took place in the nurseries. The collaboration between the University of Bologna and the Pedagogical Coordination of the city was born from the recognition of a demand, emerged while compiling a self-assessment tool about the quality of the service, through which a very limited use of the green areas of the nurseries and preschools was assessed. This problem, that was perceived by the administrators as a stringent limit to be removed, became the starting point from which the research training project was developed. The project involved, besides actual educators and pedagogical coordinators, also the environmental educators of an excellence centre in Bologna and the researchers of the Department of Educational Sciences. The results obtained during the first stage of the research, which involved the participants in a nature immersion experience, are presented.
