In the present work, the efficiency of finned heat dissipators cooled by laminar flow is studied. The analysis is carried out by varying certain sizing parameters in correspondence with different viscous dissipation conditions. The velocity distribution in the fluid and the temperature distribution in the dissipator and in the fluid are determined by means of a finite element method. The model allows to study the variation of the heat transfer coefficient due to the fluid dynamic conditions imposed by the fin profile. Lastly, a comparison between the optimum fin shapes obtained under different viscous dissipation effects is carried out.
