With the aim of preserving the natural environment in large modern cities, but also of planning a sustainable and progressive development inside the urban contexts in the sense of promoting ecological and economic measures for supporting the tourist industry, a new gamma of Electric city buses, with Framed Modular Biocomposite Platform (FMBP), is being developed. The present paper analyses this new type of city bus, characterized by high efficiency and the compact structure of a planetary coupling drive, which is recognized as one of the most popular generator units in hybrid electric vehicles. This paper also investigated the possibility to largely adopt the FMBP design solution as sustainable approach for the 21st century urban mobility. Thus, the public road transport would be significantly improved. Finally, performances of these busses were evaluated also in terms of efficiency of the transports system through an optimal control of costs.
