This study is focused on the analysis and evaluation of environmental impacts generated by construction and demolition waste (C&DW) in Europe. The presence of this type of special waste in the environment became an important issue in the world in the last years, while it accounts for about 25% - 30% of the whole quantity of waste produced in the EU. In order to evaluate some specific features of current and future circumstances of C&DW management we proposed and assessed various management scenarios, considering both actual C&DW management systems in two European countries: Italy and Romania, as well as future potential to reduce the environmental impact of C&DW together with the consumption of natural resources. All scenarios were evaluated in terms of various environmental impact categories based on Life Cycle Analysis methodology, assisted by GaBi and SimaPro software, so as to establish the most suitable and ecoefficient scenario for implementation in both countries.
