Sprachvariation als Sprachwandel im DaF-Unterricht oder Der Korrektiv- bzw. Restriktivsatz nach wobei im geschriebenen Standarddeutsch

In German wobei is amongst others a relative pronomial adverb that introduces subclauses. It can furthermore be used as a concessive conjunction displaying also a subordinate clause order with the conjugated verb at the end (verb last). On the basis of research results in the last two decades wobei has undergone a functional expansion, especially in spoken language. In fact, together with its traditional role, it can also have a corrective function, as it can partially or entirely correct the assertion in the main clause from which it depends. This correction displays now a different word order: in a corrective wobei clause the verb is no longer in the last position but it moves to the second place (verb second). In this paper I will show, that this corrective function of wobei is not limited to spoken language, but can be found in written standard German as well.
