The article analyze and discuss the contemporary debate about agrarian transformation in Africa (and in particular in Southern Africa). It focuses mainly on process of transformation of the role of local pesants and of the rural world in the region, by considering two main questions: how peasants face process of tranformation defined also by the global context, and how the contemporay phenomenon of land grabbing impacts in the rural development of the region.
