Civic participation and youth policy: the role of intergenerational relations This article aims to explore the representations and practices of participation by the young, paying special attention to the influence of intergenerational relations on young people’s interpretation of citizenship. It presents a qualitative study among a representative sample of young people and a sample of significant adults in Bologna (Italy). The findings emphasise that relations between the young and adults influence the former’s preference for certain forms of participation and also the meaning they give to their behaviour as participants.
