Analysis of the poetic and musical text of two Schubert Lieder, "Auf dem Wasser zu singen" (D 774) and "Des Baches Wiegenlied" (D 795/20), which share a mutual poetic subject, i.e. water, flowing in the first case, stagnant in the second one. The analysis is biased towards a didactic consideration of the concept of 'creativity' as applied to composition as well as to listening appreciation. The argument is based on the present state of general educational research as well as on music didactics.

Abstract

Analysis of the poetic and musical text of two Schubert Lieder, "Auf dem Wasser zu singen" (D 774) and "Des Baches Wiegenlied" (D 795/20), which share a mutual poetic subject, i.e. water, flowing in the first case, stagnant in the second one. The analysis is biased towards a didactic consideration of the concept of 'creativity' as applied to composition as well as to listening appreciation. The argument is based on the present state of general educational research as well as on music didactics.
