This paper stems from the first research project on community cooperatives with the aim to respond the question "What are and how the community cooperatives work?" In this study a complex and detailed analysis of this emerging phenomenon, using different methodologies and diversified analysis tools was conducted. The data collected facilitated to build a picture as complete as possible on cooperatives of the community and their interaction with local communities .The starting point of the research was recognize around all the active cooperatives in Italy which can be safely defined community cooperatives. The second phase considered the analysis of the patterns governance structures. Starting from four key concepts such as Mission , Governance , Accountability and Advocacy , authors tried to find an ideal-type of community cooperative to give a representation in terms of add value creation and social distribution.The research helped to spread a good level of awareness on the subject of community cooperatives despite the analyzed phenomenon is extremely limited (the census is 24 community cooperatives ) and still too young to be able to trace the exact future trends.
