Despite EU indications and policies, South East Europe regions are far from the implementation of transnational policies for a sustainable urban development. In particular, the path that public administrations, enterprises and citizens are expected to take in order to bridge the gap between policies and practices and to achieve low environmental impact in urban planning of residential areas is still open. Starting from the experience and results of BUILD SEE project – South East Europe Programme – this paper aims to analyse the ongoing situation in nine countries from the SEE area, taking into account three main issues – public administration issue, social issue and building innovation issue. Moreover, the paper discusses to what extent SEE regions can meet the EU requirements, given the wide dissimilarity of SEE countries’ practices.

Abstract
Despite EU indications and policies, South East Europe regions are far from the implementation of transnational policies for a sustainable urban development. In particular, the path that public administrations, enterprises and citizens are expected to take in order to bridge the gap between policies and practices and to achieve low environmental impact in urban planning of residential areas is still open. Starting from the experience and results of BUILD SEE project – South East Europe Programme – this paper aims to analyse the ongoing situation in nine countries from the SEE area, taking into account three main issues – public administration issue, social issue and building innovation issue. Moreover, the paper discusses to what extent SEE regions can meet the EU requirements, given the wide dissimilarity of SEE countries’ practices.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
