Law in Legal Informatics. As legal information is processed by computer systems, computation is increasingly contributing to the functioning of legal systems. Consequently, legal infor- matics has a large role to play, providing theories and models supporting computable law, as well as critical reflections on it. Indeed, in recent decades research on legal informatics has expanded to address multiple operations and aspects of the law, including text retrieval, virtual documents, the deductive derivation of legal conclusions, conceptual structures, ar- gumentation, case-based reasoning, interpretation, dialogues, theory construction, adaptive attitudes, and institutions.
