In recent years, an increasing interaction between extreme natural phenomena and technological accidents has been observed. This observation suggests researchers to focus attention on the study of natural technological risks (named NaTech risks). The present work focuses on the improvement of a recent procedure for the vulnerability mapping of industrial facilities potentially exposed to volcanic Na-Tech events. In particular, the focus is on NaTech events caused by the emission of volcanic ash. The improvement of the procedure is carried out by using a specific tool of a GIS (Geographic Information System) software, named ModelBuilder, which permits the representation and management of the evolution of the scenario. The vulnerability maps, which have been produced, are a useful tool for the civil protection authorities, territorial planners and stakeholders, they are intuitive and allow to quickly understand the potentiality of damage due to the occurrence of these events. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

Abstract
© 2014 Taylor & Francis Group, London.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
