The prototype of a portable and wireless ZigBee based ECG monitoring device is presented. The device is able to sample and transmit over the air a single lead ECG signal to a remote Base Station in real time. Considerations are made upon ZigBee usefulness in the field of Telemedicine and Biomedical Engineering, focusing on the trade-off between amount of data transmitted and preservation of battery life.
