A review of the most dangerous plant diseases due to phytopathogenic prokaryotes was carried out. Main phytoplasma asso-ciated diseases and their epidemiologic features are summarized together with their synoptic classification. Main diseases due to the presence of ‘Candidatus Liberibacter’ spp. are also described in connection to their geographic distribution and insect vectors worldwide and finally outline of diseases due to Xylella fastidiosa subspecies are reported with special emphasis on the recent outbreaks in olive trees.
