In the famous battle of Mogesdorf (1664), the Italian general Raimondo Montecuccoli (1609-1680), defeated the Turkish army, which was enormously superior in terms of equipment and soldiers. Montecuccoli's fame derives not only from the great and victorious campaigns which he conducted against the Ottoman Empire and France as a military man at the Habsurg's service; it is also due to his important theoretical work of on war, which combines very different (from the classics to Machiavelli, the reason of State and Lipsius). Montecuccoli elaborates a kind of global science of war which is still of grat interest today.

Abstract
In the famous battle of Mogesdorf (1664), the Italian general Raimondo Montecuccoli (1609-1680), defeated the Turkish army, which was enormously superior in terms of equipment and soldiers. Montecuccoli's fame derives not only from the great and victorious campaigns which he conducted against the Ottoman Empire and France as a military man at the Habsurg's service; it is also due to his important theoretical work of on war, which combines very different (from the classics to Machiavelli, the reason of State and Lipsius). Montecuccoli elaborates a kind of global science of war which is still of grat interest today.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
