Addressing the research questions raised within the forum “The Apostolic See and the World: Challenges and risks facing global history” (Dr. B. Albani, Max-Planck Institute für Europäische Rechtsgeschichte), this article discusses how recent trends in global and world history shaped analytical tools, which can be usefully applied to the study of the medieval papacy and its interaction with the Oriental regions. The case of Armenian-Latin interactions during the period of the Avignon papacy is especially taken into account.
