Musicians’ objective criteria have been proposed in the literature basing on measurements done in concert halls. The stages of the Italian historical theatres are designed to host opera scenes and singers. Orchestras plays often on the stage, due to larger availability of opera houses compared to concert halls in Italy. Acoustic conditions on these stage are not optimized for the symphonic playing; several theatres have orchestra shells but they are not often used due to the high operating costs. The acoustics of the stages of four Italian historical theatres have been measured using objective criteria proposed in the literature.
