Axel Honneth re-reads Hegel’s theory of a “struggle for recognition” and adapts it to a post- metaphysical context; his general premise is that intersubjective recognition represents a necessary prerequisite for the practical constitution of personal identity. On the grounds of Honneth’s theory and through a dynamic interpretation of the stadial structure of intersubjective recognition, this essay aims to highlight the importance of an interpretation of law as social power.
