The diet of hake Merluccius merluccius, one of the main demersal and commercial species in the Mediterranean Sea, was studied in the Northern-Middle Adriatic Sea during the cruises: MEDITS 2005-2006; GRUND 2005; ZTB 2005(Barbare; Pomo; Ravenna); RETI TROFICHE 2005. Specimens ranged between 53 to 670 mm TL. The diet was mainly composed of fish, particularly: Engraulis encrasicolus (54% weight), Cepola macrophthalma (18% weight), Gobius niger (4% weight), Merluccius merluccius (4% weight), crustaceans (particularly decapods). There were size and season related changes in the trophic spectrum and in the degree of stomach fullness.
