In this paper, we report sedimentation and accumulation rates determined from a replicate sediment core collected within a wetland of a lagoon system (Pialassa Baiona) - located in the proximity of the North Adriatic Sea - by using the natural radionuclide 210Pb, along with supporting measurements of total organic carbon (TOC). The vertical profile of excess 210Pb (=210Pbtotal-226Ra) decreased exponentially, resulting in sedimentation rate of 0.20 cm/year in the last decades. The fluctuations in excess 210Pb activities correlate closely to the organic carbon (TOC) content of the sediments, likely reflecting historical variations or changes in sediment delivery into the lagoon system.

Abstract
In this paper, we report sedimentation and accumulation rates determined from a replicate sediment core collected within a wetland of a lagoon system (Pialassa Baiona) - located in the proximity of the North Adriatic Sea - by using the natural radionuclide 210Pb, along with supporting measurements of total organic carbon (TOC). The vertical profile of excess 210Pb (=210Pbtotal-226Ra) decreased exponentially, resulting in sedimentation rate of 0.20 cm/year in the last decades. The fluctuations in excess 210Pb activities correlate closely to the organic carbon (TOC) content of the sediments, likely reflecting historical variations or changes in sediment delivery into the lagoon system.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
