Karyotyping, a standard method for presenting pictures of the human chromosomes for diagnostic purposes, is a long standing, yet common technique in cytogenetics. In this paper we study an ensemble of machine-learning-type classifiers trained using wavelet coefficients of the Density Profile of the Chromosome. Moreover, we study the fusion of the wavelet-based method with a method trained using a set of features that describe the important characteristic bands of a chromosome. The fusion showed improved performance over results previously published in the literature.

Abstract
Karyotyping, a standard method for presenting pictures of the human chromosomes for diagnostic purposes, is a long standing, yet common technique in cytogenetics. In this paper we study an ensemble of machine-learning-type classifiers trained using wavelet coefficients of the Density Profile of the Chromosome. Moreover, we study the fusion of the wavelet-based method with a method trained using a set of features that describe the important characteristic bands of a chromosome. The fusion showed improved performance over results previously published in the literature.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
