Application of synchronous optical switches in Optical Packet/Burst switched networks is considered. The shared per node architecture, where a limited number of wavelength converters are shared among all input channels, is applied for contention resolution in the wavelength domain. A traffic model suitable to represent different contributions to loss is proposed. Full and limited range wavelength conversion capabilities are considered for switch design optimization in terms of cost and performance. Model validation is obtained by comparison with simulation results.

Abstract
Application of synchronous optical switches in Optical Packet/Burst switched networks is considered. The shared per node architecture, where a limited number of wavelength converters are shared among all input channels, is applied for contention resolution in the wavelength domain. A traffic model suitable to represent different contributions to loss is proposed. Full and limited range wavelength conversion capabilities are considered for switch design optimization in terms of cost and performance. Model validation is obtained by comparison with simulation results.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
