In the present paper poly(ethylene oxide)-silica hybrid coatings (PEO-SiO2) were prepared by the sol-gel method and applied onto polycarbonate (PC) substrate in order to improve its scratch resistance. PEO was chosen as the organic part of the coatings thanks to its miscibility and thermodynamical affinity with PC. Conventional thermal curing and microwave assisted curing were used to obtain hard transparent coatings from the hybrid sols, and their ability in promoting the hybrid system crosslinking and their effect on the final properties of the coated PC was compared.

Abstract
In the present paper poly(ethylene oxide)-silica hybrid coatings (PEO-SiO2) were prepared by the sol-gel method and applied onto polycarbonate (PC) substrate in order to improve its scratch resistance. PEO was chosen as the organic part of the coatings thanks to its miscibility and thermodynamical affinity with PC. Conventional thermal curing and microwave assisted curing were used to obtain hard transparent coatings from the hybrid sols, and their ability in promoting the hybrid system crosslinking and their effect on the final properties of the coated PC was compared.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
