Agriculture residues represent a large amount of biomass that is not always exploited for its energy content. Although the most common end-use of farming byproducts is within the field, this biomass can be used as a renewable source of energy. This paper aims to suggest a valid method for evaluating the potential of residual biomass production at a regional level using the Geographical Information System (GIS). Through the GIS tool it is possible to connect a data-base on crops distribution and productivity to the geographical base of the study area. Thematic maps which show the distribution of residues throughout the region represent the GIS output. This allows for making considerations on residue availability and concentration in each area of the region, using this information to program logistics and for residual biomass storage and conversion technologies for energy production. Evaluation of the possible transformation processes of the raw material was carried out.

Abstract
Evaluation of the possible transformation processes of the raw material was carried out.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
