In the present paper timestacks (high frequency time series of pixel intensities located in appropriate position of the image) taken by the ARGUS station in Lido di Dante are analyzed. The utility of an innovative methodology to quantify alongshore flow velocities from video imagery for the measurements of the alongshore currents induced by waves breaking on the structures is assessed. Estimated alongshore currents with video analysis are tested against ground truth data giving satisfactory results. An automatic procedure aimed to measure the number of breaking waves at every single cross-shore section of the LCS is here presented. The tool provides information also on the probability of overtopping and on the fade down of wave breaking on the structures.

Abstract
In the present paper timestacks (high frequency time series of pixel intensities located in appropriate position of the image) taken by the ARGUS station in Lido di Dante are analyzed. The utility of an innovative methodology to quantify alongshore flow velocities from video imagery for the measurements of the alongshore currents induced by waves breaking on the structures is assessed. Estimated alongshore currents with video analysis are tested against ground truth data giving satisfactory results. An automatic procedure aimed to measure the number of breaking waves at every single cross-shore section of the LCS is here presented. The tool provides information also on the probability of overtopping and on the fade down of wave breaking on the structures.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
