The goal of this work is to test the practicability and the effectiveness of the probabilistic approach called ”2000 SAC/FEMA” applied to seismic reliability assessment of reinforced concrete (RC)frame structures. As a first step, Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis is performed for the earthquake-source zone, classified in Italian Parametric Catalogue of Earthquakes, where given buildings are located. Hazard curve is obtained through seismic risk analysis of the area under study with a consistent attenuation law for Italian territory. Subsequently, numerical investigations are carried out for a set of RC frames designed according to Eurocode 8 provisions. Probabilistic Seismic Demand Analysis has been performed in terms of Incremental Dynamic Analysis considering a set of recorded ground motions representative of seismicity of considered region, and using a nonlinear model which is able to represent the principal aspects of the dynamic behaviour of RC elements. The procedure of assessment is applied considering both shear and flexural structural failure mechanisms and the probability of failure is evaluated combining every single probability value associated to these different mechanisms.
