Abstract

Hospitality facilities are quickly changing their offer to satisfy the needs of new tourist tendencies: nomad or semi-nomad and inclusiveness. Thus, they push to opposite extremes: . they overgrow, swallowing external function and activities, aiming to an “all-inclusive” offer, inflating themselves until they reach an urban scale (i.e. resorts) or a territorial scale (i.e. Dubai and, of course, Rimini) . they sneak into the existing urban fabric like a swarm of cells exploiting a virtual structure that allows them to reduce the occupied physical space to the basic user unit (which equipment varies according to the potential of the context) But there is another option: . the basic cells mentioned above push themselves into “forbidden” spaces, desecrating temples of culture or beauty (such as art galleries or public libraries) in order to provoke a reflection on the meaning of hospitality, living and tourism and, of course, generate attractiveness.
