The Ravenna area is subject to a high natural subsidence. The subsidence rate can be inferred by the thickness of the sedimentary sequence: the velocities are quite constant in time, ranging between 0 and about 2 mm/y. In the second half of the last century, the town and its surroundings have been affected by a severe artificial subsidence of up to fifty times the natural rate, chiefly due to water and gas extraction. The total subsidence reached values of about one meter.

Abstract
The Ravenna area is subject to a high natural subsidence. The subsidence rate can be inferred by the thickness of the sedimentary sequence: the velocities are quite constant in time, ranging between 0 and about 2 mm/y. In the second half of the last century, the town and its surroundings have been affected by a severe artificial subsidence of up to fifty times the natural rate, chiefly due to water and gas extraction. The total subsidence reached values of about one meter.File in questo prodotto:
