We describe a heart base chemodectoma in a non-brachycephalic dog with tachypnea and loss of consciousness. Blood work analysis, electrocardiographic, echocardiographic, radiographic and tomographic examinations were performed. Histological analysis of the heart base mass revealed a chemodectoma. Treatment consisted of surgical excision of the cardiac mass. Surgery was successfully performed with complete resolution of clinical signs. Physical and instrumental examinations performed eight months after surgery revealed good clinical conditions and no evidence of relapse.
