This paper focuses on the initial results of ongoing research on two of the main pavilions of Hadrian’s Villa characterized by mixtilinear entablatures: the Maritime Theatre and the Piazza d’Oro. In the last few years, the research group has carried out a complete 3D survey and record of those buildings using a laser scanner, aiming to virtually reconstruct their original appearance by integrating different methods of investigation. Comparison between the southern pavilion of the Piazza d’Oro and similar buildings has led to a new and updated hypothesis about its vaulted spaces and roofing, while it has been possible to reliably restore the positions of different fragments of the architectural decoration of the entablature of the Maritime Theatre.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the initial results of ongoing research on two of the main pavilions of Hadrian’s Villa characterized by mixtilinear entablatures: the Maritime Theatre and the Piazza d’Oro. In the last few years, the research group has carried out a complete 3D survey and record of those buildings using a laser scanner, aiming to virtually reconstruct their original appearance by integrating different methods of investigation. Comparison between the southern pavilion of the Piazza d’Oro and similar buildings has led to a new and updated hypothesis about its vaulted spaces and roofing, while it has been possible to reliably restore the positions of different fragments of the architectural decoration of the entablature of the Maritime Theatre.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
