This paper analyses the public law dimension of Law 5766/2006, which regulates class action in Israel. After a brief history of Israeli class action, the paper illustrates how this law expanded the role of public interest actors and increased the number of causes of action related to sensitive issues such as environmental danger, equal opportunities and prohibition of discrimination. Moreover, the law established a fund for financing class actions which hold a public and social relevance. In conclusion, the paper argues that class action in Israel represents a crucial step towards a greater substantive equality.

Abstract
This paper analyses the public law dimension of Law 5766/2006, which regulates class action in Israel. After a brief history of Israeli class action, the paper illustrates how this law expanded the role of public interest actors and increased the number of causes of action related to sensitive issues such as environmental danger, equal opportunities and prohibition of discrimination. Moreover, the law established a fund for financing class actions which hold a public and social relevance. In conclusion, the paper argues that class action in Israel represents a crucial step towards a greater substantive equality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
