This essay is the result of a joint research project. It was in studying Giuseppe Mazzini early texts that two researches in the fields of youth and politics converged. Roberto Balzani, investigated Mazzini,'s message and his emotional/patriotic rhetoric. The following questions were raised: How was the political message conceived and represented? Why did it work? How long did active militancy last in practical life, and how was political action commited to memory while it was still being experienced?
