Prefabricated industrial buildings were the most damaged structures by the 2012 earthquake in Italy, mostly due to the lack or failure of connection between precast elements. Many failures involved the cladding RC panels anchored to the precast columns. In this paper, a new connection system has been developed at UNIBO, to be used to the safety of cladding RC panels in existing industrial buildings. The results of an experimental campaign concerning the cyclic shear behaviour of the column-panel connection are presented. The tests have been carried out at the CIRI Buildings and Construction Laboratory of the University of Bologna.

Abstract

Prefabricated industrial buildings were the most damaged structures by the 2012 earthquake in Italy, mostly due to the lack or failure of connection between precast elements. Many failures involved the cladding RC panels anchored to the precast columns. In this paper, a new connection system has been developed at UNIBO, to be used to the safety of cladding RC panels in existing industrial buildings. The results of an experimental campaign concerning the cyclic shear behaviour of the column-panel connection are presented. The tests have been carried out at the CIRI Buildings and Construction Laboratory of the University of Bologna.
