"L'insalatiera insanguinata" is the title of a song by Domenico Modugno, written to support the call for boycott against the 1976 Davis Cup final in Chile ruled by the dictator Pinochet. The only Davis Cup ever won by an Italian team was more about politics than tennis. This research, based on the Italian press, focuses on how political and social forces dealt with the option of a sporting boycott and seeks to hoghlight the differences in the stances adopted within the government and among political parties, especially between communist and socialists. Studying reactions to this event in the press helps one gain a better understunding of political conflict in mid-1970s Italy.

Abstract
"L'insalatiera insanguinata" is the title of a song by Domenico Modugno, written to support the call for boycott against the 1976 Davis Cup final in Chile ruled by the dictator Pinochet. The only Davis Cup ever won by an Italian team was more about politics than tennis. This research, based on the Italian press, focuses on how political and social forces dealt with the option of a sporting boycott and seeks to hoghlight the differences in the stances adopted within the government and among political parties, especially between communist and socialists. Studying reactions to this event in the press helps one gain a better understunding of political conflict in mid-1970s Italy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
