A new communication paradigm, namely piggyback communication, is introduced. The founding principle of piggyback communication is to recycle source of opportunity (SoO) signals, already available in the surrounding environment for other services, to establish short-range passive radio links between a certain number of wireless nodes and a receiver without the injection of additional power in the environment, thus achieving close zero-power wireless communications.

Abstract

A new communication paradigm, namely piggyback communication, is introduced. The founding principle of piggyback communication is to recycle source of opportunity (SoO) signals, already available in the surrounding environment for other services, to establish short-range passive radio links between a certain number of wireless nodes and a receiver without the injection of additional power in the environment, thus achieving close zero-power wireless communications.
