This paper deals with reinforced concrete beams strengthened with FRP sheets. An experimental research is presented, aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the experimental modal analysis in detecting both the structural damage and the stiffness recovery due to strengthening. Ten beams were tested, with different amount of external reinforcement: both the material (GFRP, high strength CFRP and high modulus CFRP) and the number of sheets were varied. The results are evaluated in terms of both static and dynamic behaviour. Modal parameters (natural frequency and damping for the different mode shapes) are compared with the static stiffness both before and after strengthening. The results show that frequency and damping are well correlated to the stiffness, particularly for the higher vibration modes determined.

Abstract
The results show that frequency and damping are well correlated to the stiffness, particularly for the higher vibration modes determined.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
