In this paper the behavior of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensors is studied, when they are used for monitoring fiber composite materials used in civil engineering. Strain measurements on FRP are affected by various factors. The aim of this research is to better understand the influence of the factors which can cause errors in strain measurements using FBG sensors externally bonded on FRP. The influence of low modulus host materials where the sensors are bonded and the in-homogeneity of the material are the most important causes of possible measurement errors. This paper presents the results of an experimental program based on tensile tests on specimens of Aramid fiber composite. Some anomalous results obtained by testing are evaluated and discussed.

Abstract
Some anomalous results obtained by testing are evaluated and discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
