Looking at a co-development project involving Ghanaian migrants to Italy, this article explores the communication processes and identity construction among this group of migrants. Embodying the “migration which produces”, they may question some common stereotypes concerning migrants, paradoxically strengthening other current public rhetorics in which only the economic producer can be a welcome migrant. The analysis of discourses shows the Ghanaian migrants’ ability to assume dominant rhetorics and descriptive categories with the aim of changing the current Italian media images-discourses and, thereby, gaining access to national and transnational public spheres.

Abstract
Looking at a co-development project involving Ghanaian migrants to Italy, this article explores the communication processes and identity construction among this group of migrants. Embodying the “migration which produces”, they may question some common stereotypes concerning migrants, paradoxically strengthening other current public rhetorics in which only the economic producer can be a welcome migrant. The analysis of discourses shows the Ghanaian migrants’ ability to assume dominant rhetorics and descriptive categories with the aim of changing the current Italian media images-discourses and, thereby, gaining access to national and transnational public spheres.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
