The article seeks to illuminate a fundamental contradiction in the process of European political integration, focusing on an event related to the single grossest violation of human rights since 1945 in Europe and its consequences on human and collective security. It endeavours to advance a holistic interpretation of the siege of Sarajevo (1992-1995) and its after-effects, motivating a reflection on the conditions and prospects for common life in Europe. The difficult practical and theoretical questions posed by European political integration cross the traditional boundaries that separate states and have a global impact. At least for this reason, I think they should be part of a cosmopolitan dialogue on the contemporary human predicament and global condition.

Abstract
The article seeks to illuminate a fundamental contradiction in the process of European political integration, focusing on an event related to the single grossest violation of human rights since 1945 in Europe and its consequences on human and collective security. It endeavours to advance a holistic interpretation of the siege of Sarajevo (1992-1995) and its after-effects, motivating a reflection on the conditions and prospects for common life in Europe. The difficult practical and theoretical questions posed by European political integration cross the traditional boundaries that separate states and have a global impact. At least for this reason, I think they should be part of a cosmopolitan dialogue on the contemporary human predicament and global condition.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
