During the 2004 at the Experimental Farm of the Bologna University, an organic product for the thinning of Fuji apple was tested. The product, a pine oil (commercial available as Enhancher blossom thinner) was applied at 20% and 80% open flowers at a dose of 2%. The thinning agent induced a strong flower abscission and an increase in average fruit weight in the treated trees as compared to the untreated ones. In spite of the higher fruit fresh weight, treated trees didn’t reached the same yield of control ones. An effect on fruit quality traits was also observed. Soon after treatment, some phytotoxic effects were present not only on the flowers but also on the young leaves.

Abstract
During the 2004 at the Experimental Farm of the Bologna University, an organic product for the thinning of Fuji apple was tested. The product, a pine oil (commercial available as Enhancher blossom thinner) was applied at 20% and 80% open flowers at a dose of 2%. The thinning agent induced a strong flower abscission and an increase in average fruit weight in the treated trees as compared to the untreated ones. In spite of the higher fruit fresh weight, treated trees didn’t reached the same yield of control ones. An effect on fruit quality traits was also observed. Soon after treatment, some phytotoxic effects were present not only on the flowers but also on the young leaves.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
